You And Marillion - The Sirens Song                       Mona Bergum Story

Norway, the magical land where ancient mountains lie down in the sea like sirens singing life melodies. Answering their song, Marillion shed their music into Mona Bergum life.

A divorce is the brutal mark of the end of story. Among tears, memories, bureaucracy, struggle an LP was left behind. When the new beginning knocked on Mona's door, the old friend destiny made her find the "Clutching at Straws" left behind by her ex-husband to open her "Incommunicado" heart. "Sugar Mice" expressed what her heart could not say in that moment, that her soul was embraced by love again. An inexplicable passion for those guitar chords was born. A remarriage emerge, Marillion marriage, and this one would never end. Mona tried to spread "the everything is going to be fine"  feeling with her kids by playing no stop Marillion music. Unfortunately, for her kids at that time the silence was the best music being played. Time is wise and it decided that Mona need a whole pause from the Marillion marriage to rebuild their relationship.

"One fine Day", while walking on the street Mona heard the sirens calling again, this time, from inside a music shop. A new voice in the same perfect song lines, telling her not to be "Afraid Of Sunlight". Her heart raced, hands sweat, chills down her spine and Mona`s soul was taken by the emotion of finding an old love.
She came back home with that "Uninvited Guest", but at this time was "Sympathy" at first sight. Mona was touched, her kids were enjoying the maximum present a mother can provide, love manifested trough music and now it would "Live Forever". Plunged into  Marillions sensitivity sea the kids found one of the reasons of worth living, music.

When life paraded its art of meeting, Mona found love again. That was the time for her "Splintering Heart" walk into the "Fantastic Place" called love. Trough those hours passed in the tenderness shadow, "100 Nights" of endless love. The fed dreams, shared moments, eternal conversations and stimulants challenges were accompanied with the trilling Marillion`s electric symphony. "The Party" live performance started for the family, and it repeated several times. In every Gig they shared "Hope For The Future" certain that "Happiness Is The Road".

By becoming woman, Mona became "Brave" and faced her "Runaway" girl past with eyes of grace. The grace to recognize that she was a mature woman, who sometimes needed to be "Made Again". The grace to recognize that the "Brave" woman sometimes feels like a naive child. The grace of being free, strong, and "Beautiful".

This year her body will stay in Norway while her spirit will be "Somewhere Else". It will be flying at the Holland Convention.

You And Marillion  - Karen Parkhurst Story
“Whatever is wrong with you, is so right for me”. What is wrong in being black, Jewish, immigrant, blind, deaf or needing a wheelchair? The blind see the world’s beauty through music, deaf listen to poetry through paint, and the disabled strive to overcome. That was exactly what Karen did at the Happiness is the Road 2008 tour gig in Bournemouth, when she went in her wheelchair. Breaking paradigms, challenging physics, being “Brave”, parading “Sympathy”, Karen let Marillion music embrace her soul in celebration of a inseparable love.

“I want to take care of people”, that is the nurses dream. The eighteen year old Karen was no different. In 1983 when she started her RGN course, all she wanted was to dedicate her life to bring comfort to those in pain. What kind of human being is that? Someone capable to transcend selfishness, individualism, and who face the pain as a “Fantastic Place” for development. When the young Karen met Marillion through her roommates’ cassette two things became clear: in her soul she was already a nurse and Marillion arrived to stay.

Opposites may attract but in 1992 a meaningful coincidence, made two souls became one. The Marillion synchronicity crossed Karen and her husband’s way and their world was “Made Again”, moved by “Seasons End“ and “Holidays In Eden“. Dressing themselves with the grace that only love can bring, three years later they were married, bearing as witness, Marillion music as their faithful companion.

Some things, are written in our destiny lines to give us the opportunity to find meaning, reason, inspiration, love and gratitude in this life. It can be through love or pain, which generally carry us to a significant change. Some find it through a spiritual journey, some with a loved one’s death, some with dip in the sea and some with physical challenge. When destiny challenged Karen with the physical pain and illness, her spirit “Neverland”. Why her? All she wanted was to help others, to ease their pain and now she was the one under it. Some wanted new shoes, she wanted to walk independently again “Under the Sun” and have a normal life. Some wanted to learn more, she wanted to understand. Some wanted the silence, she wanted to be heard. Some wanted the superfluous, she wanted “Faith“. To ease the pain of the ones we love, we would do anything and Richard, Karen’s husband, spread Marillion music around every second of her life in that moment. Unfortunately, her soul could not answer the call at that time. Then several years later in 2008 destiny insisted in opening Karen’s door to real life, the “Beautiful” life inside her. In that moment a journey took Karen “Out Of This World” into a spiritual revolution where she discovered the “State Of Mind”, that would change her life forever. Diving in the blue of her intimate, flying in the sky of her mind, finding “Faith”, choosing “Essence”, winning the “Don't Hurt Yourself” battle, she said “Thank you Whoever You Are” and released her heart.

And so with a new love for life and an understanding that it’s what is on the inside of a person that matters, Karen is going to make the journey to Holland - yes “Happiness is the Road”

We would like to thank Karen for allow us to  tell  her beautiful story.

You And Marillion  - Heidi Huff  Story

My name is Heidi Huff and I grew up in Minnesota (USA).  I was in high school the first time I heard Marillion.  I think it was 1988.  Tod, a boy I knew from school surprised me one day at the McDonalds where we worked by giving me a cassette tape including most of “Clutching at Straws”.   I am not sure why he did that, but I am so glad he did.

I played that tape until it died.  It was quite fitting.  At the time I felt my father was drinking far more than he should.  I had a hard time communicating with my father and didn’t know how to tell him that it was affecting me.  There were so many other problems in my young life and his drinking added to my own feelings of instability, depression, and fear. I played and rewound the tape over and over until I was able to write out the words to each song.  I placed the lyrics to “Going Under” and “Just for the Record” on the driver’s seat of his truck, after asking my step-mother her opinion.  I was so scared he would be mad at me.  I guess he was not because nothing really came of my message, but at least he understood I worried.

In the summer of 1989 I ran away from home; that tape came with me.

Eventually, I had a job and an address, so I was able buy the first four studio albums.  I did not know Fish had left the band.  I really did not know anything about Marillion except that they fundamentally changed the role music had in my life.  They changed it so drastically that many bands I thought I liked as a teenager become meaningless to me.  I had never heard music before that physically affected me; that could cause an involuntary ache, or a flutter in my chest, or even the inability to hold still as the music built and then released.  And, no matter how many times I played a song, my reactions never lessened!  My expectations for music totally and permanently shifted.

I was nervous the first time I picked up a Marillion CD and realized that Fish was not the lead singer.  It was 1994 and “Brave” was mixed in with some new releases at the record shop.  There were listening stations at the store, so I put it in the player, and… wow. Wow.  That CD went on heavy rotation for the next two years.  Although not exactly my story, “Brave” was something I unfortunately could relate to.  To have a man so correctly capture the atmosphere of a young woman in crisis seemed impossible to me, yet there it was.  I get emotional just thinking of that accomplishment alone.  Steve Hogarth absolutely proved, and has continued to prove, that he and Marillion were meant for each other.

In no time at all, I found CDs I had missed and made sure I did not miss any more of them.  My dream was to see Marillion perform live.  In 1997 I was finally able to.  It was one of the best nights of my life.

Twenty years later I was able to thank Tod for that first cassette tape and tell him just a little bit of what it meant to me.   I just love it when things come around full circle.

Patagonia, is a small paradise in the southernmost corner of the world. In this small piece of the world where Mother Nature imposes all its majesty, Marillion crossed the Atlantic ocean with its blue wave Holiday In Eden and hit the heart of the lovely teenager Cintia Muros.

It was 1994, a time for a new beginning in South America, where most of it countries where free from years of inflation and isolation. In Argentina, it was not different, and people were happy with the new era perspectives. Even with so many years of struggle south American people never gave up, its part of their DNA to believe in  better days. That was exactly the spirit that the fifteen year Cintia Munos had in that year supported by the Holidays In Eden magical sound. It was her fifteen birthday year, and as any teenager she wanted to be special. Unfortunately, (or fortunately) in that same year her grandmother went to the other side, her mother lost her job, and they could offer Cintia the fifteen birthday party. The disappointment ended when her mother arrived with a new stereo and Cd gift packet. That ocean blue cover curious her, she was about to dive in the virtuosity, sensibility, and poetry ocean that, for her whole life, she continued to dive.

Years passed, and in times of struggle, happiness, challenges, there it was the blue companion always at her side. Now she is going to achieve the dream of her life, seeing life the Holidays In Eden performance. Many do not understand her, asking how she could leave her husband, two lovely daughter and cross the ocean just to see a rock concert. It does not matter for Cintia, because she knows they would never understand. Understand that she is not going to see a rock concert, she is going to see a celebration of love, life and peace. She is going to celebrate something that nobody could never understand apart from her, how does Marillion music make her feel inside. Maybe one day, she would be able to celebrate it with her family, but now all Cintia wants is to live her dream and with a hug that means the world for her, say a thousand of thank you.
